Security First Insurance Uses Social Media to Support Local Military Families

Florida-based homeowner’s insurance provider, Security First Insurance Company, today launched a holiday Facebook promotion pledging to donate up to $5,000 to Operation Homefront Florida, a non-profit organization that provides emergency financial assistance to local military families and wounded warriors. 

The company will make a $5 donation for every person who “likes” the Security First Insurance Facebook page during the holiday season through Dec. 31. Facebook users can view how much support has been provided and watch a video demonstrating the impact Operation Homefront Florida has had on Security First Insurance and its employees.

Donations will go to support more than 50 military families, service members and wounded veterans living in Florida who need emergency financial assistance. For example, a recent request received by Operation Homefront Florida comes from an active duty Navy officer whose son was born with Down Syndrome and Hirschprung’s disease (HSCR). His family is asking for donated gas cards to assist with the fuel expense incurred from commuting to and from the hospital and doctor appointments for his son’s treatment.

“Operation Homefront Florida does a fantastic job assisting and supporting our troops, their families and wounded veterans,” said Locke Burt, chairman and president of Security First Insurance Company. “We’re proud to help Florida families enjoy the holiday season without the worry of a financial burden.”

Operation Homefront Florida does not receive state or federal funding—all funding is provided by private donations, grants, foundations, corporate contributions and fundraising events. Operation Homefront Florida’s requests for assistance are up 100 percent from this time last year.
