Florida Homeowners Insurance

The right amount of coverage for your home is one of the most important decisions you make when purchasing a homeowners insurance policy—it's a key factor in your happiness when it comes to home insurance.

We want to make it easy for you to understand the different coverages we offer our customers, and we've included important tips to help you better understand your Florida homeowners insurance coverage options.

Florida Homeowners Insurance Coverage

There are six types of coverages that are included in our homeowners insurance policy.

Helpful information is included for each type of coverage to give you a better understanding of the flexible options we offer our customers.

Coverage for the structure of your home (Coverage A)

Your homeowners insurance policy provides coverage for damage to the structure—your home—in the event of a covered loss. This coverage is provided at Replacement Cost. This means that the structure of your home is valued using today's construction costs to rebuild or repair your home. It's not the same as the real estate value of your home.

Dwelling (Coverage A) Limit: $100,000 ($125,000 minimum in coastal counties) to $1,000,000

Coverage for other structures (Coverage B)

Our Florida homeowners insurance policy provides coverage for “other structures” located on the residence's premises. For example: an unattached garage, gazebo, or in-ground swimming pool may be considered unattached structures. Of course, additional coverage may be requested for pool enclosures.

Other Structures (Coverage B) Limit: 2% to 70% of Coverage A

Coverage for your contents (Coverage C)

Coverage C is available to repair or replace your personal belongings. Examples are furniture, clothing, jewelry, television, stereo, and appliances. Our customers can choose any amount of contents coverage that they'd like applied to their policy.

Personal Property (Coverage C) Limit: 0% - 75% of Coverage A
Replacement cost on contents is included in Security First Insurance policies.

Tip: Some companies do not include replacement cost on contents coverage or only offer it at an additional cost. A Security First Insurance policy includes replacement cost coverage for your personal property. Without this coverage, items are valued at their depreciated value, which is less than full market value and more like the value you’d receive for items if they were sold at a garage sale.

Coverage if your home is uninhabitable (Coverage D)

If your home becomes uninhabitable due to a covered loss, our homeowners insurance policy provides coverage for the additional living expenses you and your family incur while you are living away from your home. This includes costs for a place to stay, food, and clothing.

Loss of Use (Coverage D) Limit: 10% of Coverage A

Tip: Make sure you keep all your receipts so that you can be sure to receive the correct reimbursement.

Rather than providing you with a check that requires you to deposit at the bank and wait to receive reimbursement funds for additional living expenses, we provide our customers with a pre-paid debit card that they can begin using right away once activated. This eliminates the hassle of depositing a check and allows our customers to withdraw cash immediately. This is one of the many solutions we've put in place to improve the customer experience with Security First Insurance.

Coverage for personal liability on your property (Coverage E)

This coverage provides protection if someone were to file a lawsuit against you, claiming you caused them bodily injury or damaged their property. Liability can protect you in situations that may be unforeseen, such as a friend twisting their ankle on a loose step. Liability coverage also covers certain defense costs—even if the lawsuit filed against you is false, groundless or fraudulent.

Personal Liability Insurance (Coverage E) Limit: $100,000 - $500,000

Coverage for medical payments (Coverage F)

Your homeowners insurance policy provides for medical payments to others (not living at your residence) if they are injured on or by your property, or as a result of you or a family member residing with you.

Medical Payments (Coverage F) Limit: $1,000 - $5,000
